An der Stange die Muskeln spielen lassen, am Wasserspender flirten und einander auschecken in der Umkleidekabine. Nach seinem Erstlingswerk Lamentations (Rakete-Festival 2023) setzt Luca Bonamore seine Beschäftigung mit queerem Cruising fort – diesmal verlegt er es aber von der öffentlichen Toilette ins Fitnessstudio. Als Tempel des Körperkults und Schauplatz der (heimlichen) Partnersuche steht das Gym nicht nur für stählerne Bodys, sondern auch für Fragen zu Leistungsdruck, Scham und Norm. Heavy Duty ist ein märchenhafter Taumel, in dem die Realitäten und Zuschreibungen verschwimmen. Bonamore hinterfragt die Performance von Maskulinität im Kontext schwuler Kultur und Sexualität. Das Stück erforscht die komplexen Dynamiken und die oft toxischen Codes. Aus Körperkontakt, Zärtlichkeit, Pole-Dance, Calisthenics und intimen Begegnungen entsteht eine verspielte Choreografie. Heavy Duty testet die vielfältigen Formen, die „Männlichkeit“ annehmen kann und in denen sich maskulin präsentierende Körper einander näherkommen.

Luca Bonamore ist ein in Rom geborener und in Wien lebender Tänzer, Choreograf und Performer. Er hat einen Bachelor in zeitgenössischem Tanz von der MUK Wien. Zu seinen jüngsten Kollaborationen gehören Lapse für das Festival S_P_I_T_ im Tanzquartier Wien (2022), I hear you. But don’t im Studio Hanniball, Berlin (2022), Tanzkonzert im Club Liaison / Wiener Festwochen (2023) und Lapse and the Scarlet Sun bei ImPulsTanz (2023). Bonamore performte in FUGUE FOUR: RESPONSE am Volkstheater Wien (8:tension / ImPulsTanz 2023), präsentierte seine Soloarbeit Lamentations beim Rakete-Festival im Tanzquartier Wien (2023) und das Stück Silent Lovers bei 8:tension / ImPulsTanz 2024. Zuletzt war er in der Theaterproduktion Lost (Du weißt wieso) von Olivia Axel Scheucher am Kosmos Theater Wien zu sehen.

Flexing the muscles lifting bars, flirting at the water dispenser and checking one another out in the changing room. After his debut Lamentations (Rakete Festival 2023), Luca Bonamore continues his explorations of queer cruising – this time, however, he relocates it from the public toilet to the gym. As a temple to the cult of the body and a place to (covertly) search for (a) partner(s), the gym not only stands for bodies of steel but also for issues regarding the pressure to perform, shame and norms. Heavy Duty is a fairytale frenzy that blurs realities and ascriptions. Bonamore challenges the performance of masculinity in the context of gay culture and sexuality. The piece examines the complex dynamics and often toxic codes. A playful choreography emerges from physical contact, tenderness, pole dancing, callisthenics and intimate encounters. Heavy Duty tries its hands at the various forms ‘masculinity’ may take and the ways in which masculine-presenting bodies approach each other.

Luca Bonamore is a dancer, choreographer, and performer born in Rome and currently working as a freelancer in Vienna. He completed his contemporary dance studies and earned his bachelor’s degree in 2023 from the Music and Arts Private University of the City of Vienna (MUK).
