Suzanne Ciani is one of electronic music’s earliest but lesser known pioneers, dubbed variously as the »diva of the diode« and »America’s first female synth hero«. She was one of the few women on the frontline of electronic innovation in the 1970s, a five-time Grammy-nominated recording artist, a pioneer of the new age genre and the first solo female composer to soundtrack a Hollywood
film. She is also renowned for Coca Cola’s infamous »pop and pour« sound effect. From her earliest days learning the piano, to her multimillion dollar advertising ventures, to her successes in the world of New Age music, to
her recent reconnection with her beloved Buchla synthesizer, the film offers a deep insight into Suzanne Ciani ́s life and the genesis of her music.
Dorit Chrysler has performed with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra and collaborated notably with Cluster, Adult, CERN, Carsten Nicolai and Laurie Spiegel. She received commissions from MoMA in New York and the Biennale di Venezia. Her music has been described by Ann Magnuson (Paper Magazin):
»Imagine if Marianne Faithfull and Nikola Tesla had a love child, with Jane Birkin as the nanny and Bjork as the wayward Girl Scout Leader!«
